Rose hips: Come from the rose plant. They are the bulbs that
remain after the petals fall off. Rose hips have been used over the years to
treat infections of all types; they have also been used to treat diarrhea, skin
problems, colds & flu, sore throats, fatigue, kidney problems, inflammation,
stress and nervousness. They have been proven to be a superb source of vitamin
C, having a much higher content than citrus fruit , they also contain vitamins E
and K, the B vitamins riboflavin and folate. Rose hips have a tangy and sort of
a sweet flavor and can be used fresh, dried, or preserved. Rose hips contain the
following: Carotenoids, Catechins, CitricAcid, Flavonoids, Isoquercitrin,

Questions & Answers: Q: How is synthetic vitamin C made?
Ascorbic Acid is the common name for Synthetic
Vitamin C which is used by most vitamin companies. Other forms include;
Calcium Ascorbate (Buffered Vitamin C) and Sodium Ascorbate (Buffered Vitamin
C).
Ascorbic Acid is synthesized from vegetable starch which is then converted to
glucose by enzymatic treatment. The glucose is then converted to sorbitol by
catalytic hydrogenation. The sobitol is then fermented forming sorbose. Sorbose
is then reacted with acetone and sulfuric acid. This is then oxidized with
sodium hydroxide and a catalyst.
The next step is acidification, forming gulonic acid, which is washed, and dried
and then treated with alcohol and hydrochloric acid. The result is crude
ascorbic acid which is filtered, then purified by crystallization from alcohol.
